As a locally owned and operated family business, owners Jason and Julie Powers pride themselves on being Townsville locals who employ local and support local.

Jason, a born and bred Townsvillian, and Julie having lived in Townsville for 36 years, ventured into the scrap metal industry in 2011.  Our business initially kicked off with Jason doing farm and mine site clean ups out of town.  Jason had identified that there was a large customer base/unserviced market within our region and set out to make a difference within the scrap metal recycling industry. 

After twelve months, we were being approached by local businesses to provide skip bins for their metal recyclables as there was an identifiable lack of local reliable service provision.  The challenge was accepted and we commenced working from our home in Alice River. We had one tilt tray and a handful of skip bins.

Weigh ‘N’ Pay NQ was born in 2016 and within eighteen months we had outgrown our back yard.  We took a leap of faith and purchased our current premises in Titanium Place, Mount Saint John.

Fast forward to 2021 and we now have a loyal customer base, three tilt trays, a Marrel truck, two additional vehicles, an excavator, a material handler, a baler shear, copper granulator and 500 skip bins of various sizes.   As well as a great team of yard personnel and drivers, with 40 years combined experience in scrap metal recycling.   A weighbridge has recently been installed to improve our efficiency in the yard.  We service the surrounding areas of Townsville, south to Bowen, west to Charters Towers and north to Tully.  We continue to operate a mine site division for clean ups through the Bowen Basic and out west to Mount Isa.    

We purchase, grade and process copper, insulated cable, brass, steel (light gauge, heavy and in size), aluminium, solar hot water panels, lead acid batteries, electric motors and compressors, starter motors and alternators, stainless steel, air conditioners and white goods on site.

With a combined 40 years’ experience in the scrap metal recycling world, our team excel at grading and processing ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metal. Customers can expect their materials to be graded accurately and efficiently.

We are open for walk in trade six days a week.  Mon – Fri 7.30am – 4pm and Saturday 7.30am – 12md.

We service private, commercial, industrial, farming and mine site operations.   Our customer base includes Electricians, Plumbers, Refrigeration/HVAC mechanics, Diesel Mechanics, Auto Electrical Technicians, Motor Mechanics, Sheet Metal Fabricators, Engineering Workshops, Construction Industries, Farmers, General Public to name a few.

Whether you have a large or small workshop, we can provide a bin suited to your needs.  We have bins ranging in size from 1 cubic metre to 6 cubic metres.  We also have half height shipping containers for large scale jobs.

Weigh N Pay NQ also offers a secure destruction service for items of a sensitive nature.  Destruction Certificates can be provided upon request.
